Ms. Hnin has been experiencing pain from a condition of varicose veins for 3 years. With on going treatment for years, her condition remains the same. Because of the recommendation from her uncle to visit Vejthani Hospital, she made an appointment with Dr. Sanit Navikaputra, a vascular surgeon for her treatment. After a proper diagnosis, Ms Hnin was given two options. Conventional surgery for varicose veins or Endovenous ablation which is a minimally invasive procedure. Because of it’s advantages of fast recovery with minimum pain, Ms. Hnin went ahead with the second option. The surgery went smoothly and ended with a successful result, leaving the patient pain free.

Mrs. Ntunt Sein found relief from her abdominal aortic aneurysm; for years, she battled the discomfort from the disease, experiencing debilitating back pain and challenges with mobility. The doctor told her that it could be treated by minimally invasive surgery. Abdominal aortic aneurysm requires surgical treatment before it turns into a harmful condition because there is compression on the blood vessels. Dr. Supachai Chanvitan said he could ensure the operation’s success up to 95%.’

With advanced post-operative rehabilitation, Mrs. Ntunt has recovered well with no sign of strange symptoms in her abdomen.

Mrs. Tin Nyo used to feel tightening and discomfort around her abdomen because of a large hepatic cyst making it very difficult for her to move forward, sit and stand. While the standard treatment is laparoscopic surgery, Dr. Jade Suphapol (HPB Surgeon) performed an open surgery to remove the whole cyst as Mrs. Nyo had already undergone multiple operations. After the surgical removal of the whole cyst, she is leading a normal life. Non-parasitic liver cysts are benign and asymptomatic until they become enlarged. Such cysts must be surgically removed to avoid complications that arise after rupture, infection or hemorrhage.

Back pain is a very common symptom which affects all age ranges. The chronic of back problems often lead to poorer quality of life and working performance. Sometimes the pain can be easily resolved with anti-inflammatory medications, steroidal injections, and rehabilitation. But some people with spine problem may need surgery.

Spine surgery is traditionally done as open surgery, meaning the area being operated on is opened with a long incision to allow the surgeon to view and access the anatomy. In recent years, technological advances have made strides in the treatment of spinal conditions by using a minimally i nvasi ve surgi cal technique. With minimally invasive spine surgery (MISS), patients may have a smaller incision, smaller scar, less blood loss, and less length of stay in the hospital.

Pol.Lt.Col.Chalin Wichaidit, a patient who has trusted and received spine surgery at Vejthani Hospital told that “For over a year, I experienced lower back and leg pain that makes it difficult to walk. I had visited several hospitals, but the symptoms didn’t improve.”

I luckily found the article about Spinal Stenosis Treatment upon the use of modern technology by Vejthani Hospital written on the newspaper. So, I chose Vejthani Hospital to receive my treatment. When I had arrived at the hospital, I was asked about my medical history and had x-rays to identify problems. Then the doctor recommended me to have surgery, the only option to get rid of my pain.”

Side Effects and Suggestion

“After my successful surgery, I felt a little bit of pain at the site of surgical incision. The doctor suggested me to start a physical therapy to help the muscles and spine heal properly. Moreover, I am thoroughly impressed with the kind of services during my hospital stay.”
Dr. Pattara Kosanunt, a spine specialist at Vejthani Hospital, has informed about the symptoms and treatment options for this case that:

“Khun Chalin came to the hospital with chronic lower back and sciatic pain. The pain was going down to leg and getting worse when he was walking or standing for long periods of time. After taking his medical history and the x-rays have been done, we found that the pain was caused by degenerative disc disease and led to bone pressing on the nerve roots”.

Treatment & Care

“The aim of operation is decompression of the nerve root and fix scoliosis. The procedure took around 3 hours. The patient started physical therapy as early as the second day, then returned home and returned to normal activities on the third day”.

Surgical Care in Elderly Adults

“It is important to note that the age should not restrict an individual’s treatment options. This is a good news for older patients who suffer from back pain. The minimally invasive spine surgery may offer older patients more options for spine care. The approach provides the benefits of undergoing surgical procedure with minimal blood loss, faster recovery time, and fewer postoperative risks.” Dr. Pattara said.

If you or your loved one is suffering from chronic back pain, always consult doctor for medical advice and receive proper treatment.

The bones are one of the main structures of the body, especially the back bone or spine which has the central construction function that signals the muscles and nerves. Any abnormalities or diseases on the spinal cord, either congenital dysfunction or acquired by injuries, needs to be fixed for a better quality of life.

Moreover, spinal diseases in some stages are treatable by behavioral adjustment, medication or rehabilitation. Surgical treatment only plays a role when treating severe spinal conditions. Spinal surgery in the past is a major worrisome factor to most of the patients and their relatives which scares them to undertake the procedure. Because of that, they allow their condition to get a lot worse.

The success of medical developers helped spinal surgery to be simpler than it seems.  Experienced surgeons combined with new surgical techniques such as minimally invasive surgery, navigator, robotic assisted surgery and many more became the important part in the new era of spinal surgery which increases accuracy, lessens pain and incision as well as minimizes blood loss. Thus, technology today gives a greater assistance in patient’s decision making process as it ensures patient safety.

Voice from Victories

Mr. Sanjet Choyaputtha, 63, retired government officer has harmed his spine by a lot of heavy lifting when he was young and unfortunately had an accident while carrying a bucket of water down the hillside.  He went to a hospital but decided not to receive surgical treatment.  After that, his condition gradually disappeared on its own.  On the other hand, later on he felt severe pain on his lower back when his granddaughter jumped unto him.  The examination result at Vejthani Hospital showed that he has several herniated discs and needs a surgery to cure his condition. The suggested solution for Mr. Sunjade’s condition was Robotic Spinal Surgery, it is an assisted technology to increase screw placement accuracy resulting in successful surgical outcome.

Pol.Lt.Col.Chalin Wichaidit, a patient who has experienced lower back pain which is going down to his leg and gets worse while walking.  Medication treatment could not improve his condition so he decided to receive medical examination at Vejthani Hospital and was found to have a degenerative disc and scoliosis. The surgeon then suggested an Endoscopic Surgery treatment plan to decompress the nerve roots and fix scoliosis.  The patient started physical therapy as early as the second day, then returned home and returned to his normal activities on the third day.

Khun Krongthip Chomyong, 55 years old woman has suffered chronic back pain which affected her daily life for years. She was once afraid that she might not be able to walk again if she will undergo surgery. She had left her condition untreated until she was found having pinched nerve on 7 spine joints which required surgery and screws placement. The surgeon explained all the available surgical techniques and suggested “Robotic Spinal Surgery”; a cooperative work between robotic technology and experienced surgeon which will be able to determine most of the screw’s direction accurately, degree of screw placement and its size; and lessens error and complication caused by screw misplacement. Khun Krongthip finally was willing to receive the treatment and she was satisfied with the successful surgery result.

Nong Mind, Chanokpassorn Chansamorn, sweet 18-year-old girl had a noticeable strange lump on the right side of her back, even if the condition did not affect her health; it definitely affected the girl’s confidence. Her worried parents took their daughter to several rehabilitation clinics to ease the pain and slightly boost her confidence. However, in order to straighten the structure of the spinal cord, surgery is the best choice. The surgeon has chosen a ‘Navigator’ as assistance for this case to determine the most accurate direction and degree while performing the surgery to ensure the patient’s safety. They were satisfied with the post-surgery result and the spinal cord structure was straightened as it should. Nong Mind has shared that she was pleased to be able to live her life confidently once again.

However, surgery is not the end of treatment, but it is just the beginning to restore what we have destroyed. Post-operation result is nothing to be afraid of because of the remarkably great assistance of present innovative technology that can ensure positive treatment result. It is time to start observing changes in our body, beware of abnormalities and get a medical consultation to eliminate a harmful threat beforehand so that we can tell that we have lived with ‘victory’ in ourselves.

Accident always comes unexpectedly! Yet, you better know how to handle and cope with it if this unfortunate event happens, especially when the body has been injured. Proper diagnosis and treatment is very important to prevent any possible further complications and unavoidable losses.

Mr. Boontueng Koomtrakool, 58 years old office worker shared his very own experience about his motorcycle accident that has caused him to have a cervical spine fracture and herniated cervical disc. Luckily, his decision of having the proper treatment was made just in time and was able to have a correct cervical support and had a successful spinal fusion operation.
Cervical

Unexpected Accident

Khun Boontueng told us that “It happened while I was riding my motorcycle on my way back home after work. The route I took was under construction, packed with cars and the road was so muddy that it was difficult for me to control my balance and my head accidentally hit the car next to me with a strong impact and then I lost my consciousness for a period of time.”

“When I finally woke up, I felt weakness in my arms and legs. A few minutes later, the emergency response officers arrived and took me to the nearest hospital. I was assessed and then they kept me waiting for further diagnosis. I was not feeling well and worried, so I started to seek for another hospital to receive faster and proper treatment.”

Journey to Vejthani Hospital

“My daughter has posted a message through many Social Media to get the best suggestion of a medical service provider. A group of friends suggested us to come here at Vejthani Hospital because this hospital has been recognized in providing diagnosis and treatment on time.

Vertebral Fracture Compression

“Dr. Chaiwat Piyaskulkaew informed me that my cervical spine at C5-C6-C7 was broken that pinched the nerve resulting to numbness and weakness of my hand. The purpose of the treatment was to remove the broken cervical spine out to prevent further damage and correct the herniated disk.”

“I arrived at Vejthani Hospital at 9.00 p.m. and rapidly received the surgery early in the morning.”

Treatment Satisfaction

“I would describe the pain after surgery as ‘zero’ as I have no idea about where the doctor had done the surgery because I felt no pain at all. There was a slight numbness on my hand because of the damage from the accident to my nerves which required physical therapy and low-intensity exercise”

“I am fully satisfied with the outcome of the treatment and operation. The doctors, nurses and medical officers took really good care of me which is only one out of the many reasons why I am impressed with Vejthani Hospital.”

Mrs. Etsegent Alemu Birhanu had severe lower back pain for months. She couldn’t walk or get around comfortably without feeling pain, causing her to be on bed rest most of the time until her friend recommended that she seek treatment at Vejthani Hospital. She consulted Dr. Pattara Kosanunt, specialized in spine surgery. After the investigations, her diagnosis shows that she has a herniated disc in her lumber spine. She underwent Endoscopic Decompression surgery, which is a minimally invasive surgery that allows the surgeon to decompress the spinal nerves in the spinal canal. It uses an endoscope, real-time EMG, and real-time radiographic images for the safest and most effective surgery.

Mrs. Etsegent shared how she felt after the surgery and how she got back to her previous lifestyle, regaining her mobility.
